Abstract Light Star

Create a new 400 x 400 pixels document with a black background.

Add a Lens Flare (Filter -> Render -> Lens Flare) in the center of the Canvas.

Brightness: 85%
Lens Type: 105mm Prime

You should now have something similar to the picture on the left.

Create a New Layer (Shift+Ctrl+N) and call it Layer2. Select the Gradient Tool with the following settings:

Foreground Color: White (#FFFFFF)
Background Color: Black (#000000)
Gradient: Background color to Foreground color
Gradient Type: Reflected Gradient
Mode: Difference
Opacity: 100%
Reverse: No
Dither: Yes
Transparency: Yes

Now use the Gradient Tool to draw a cross like the one shown on the picture of the left. Try to draw the gradient cross over the Lens Flare on Layer1. Don't worry if you don't get it on your first shot, you can always clear the layer and try again.

Set Layer2’s Blending Mode to Color Dodge. You can move the layer around to get something that suits your needs.

Still working on Layer2, change the Hue/Saturation (Ctrl+U) to whatever color you want.
